We’ve been sharing a lot of information about cars that will not be returning for another model year. Now, we’ve put together a list of ten vehicles you might not know will cease production. Here are the top ten cars discontinued in 2021.

Acura RLX

At the end of the 2020 model year, the RLX sedan will be no more. Instead, Acura plans to focus on SUV models, such as the MDX and RDX instead.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

If you are a fan of this tiny sports car, you don’t have much longer to grab it. Instead, the Italian automaker is hard at work on the Tonale, a subcompact crossover.

BMW I8

While automakers are heavily focused on creating electric vehicles, BMW has evidence that says the i8 won’t last. This plug-in hybrid has been around since 2014, but has only sold 1,102 units in 2019.

Buick Regal

As Buick also works toward SUV production, the Regal will stop rolling off of the assembly line. With nearly ninety percent of sales for the company coming from crossovers, this makes complete sense.

Chevrolet Impala

We’ve already told you about the Sonic discontinuation, but it seems that the Impala might also hit the chopping block. Looking at Chevy’s vehcile lineup for 2021, the Malibu isn’t mentioned.

Dodge Grand Caravan

As SUV lineups continue to expand, there is less of a demand for minivans. That’s why FCA has decided to end the production of the Dodge Grand Caravan moving forward.

Ford Fusion

Another car discontinued in 2021 is the Fusion. It’s just another sedan that won’t make the cut. We knew for many years that the Fusion was walking a tight line, but it seems to be over for good.

Lexus GS

The luxury division of Toyota is ending production of the GS sedan. The company chose to cease manufacturing due to poor sales. However, it will be avaialble as a 2020 GS Black Line Special Edition before it disappears.

Lincoln MKZ

The automaker is changing focus to electric vehicles. To do this, the company can’t continue producing all of the vehicles currently in the lineup. That’s why both the Lincoln Continental and the Lincoln MKZ are cars discontinued in 2021.

Mercedes-Benz SLC

We got the annoucement about the SLC back in 2019, so this is no surprise. Yet, it’s still sad to see this luxury model leave the market.

More Cars Discontinued in 2021

Of course, this is just the start of the vehicles not returning in 2021. We will have more news for you as it becomes available.

It seems that every other day we are reporting on more discontinued cars. The latest being sent to the chopping block is the Honda Fit and Civic Coupe. It appears Honda is the next automaker to focus more heavily on SUVs and electric cars while getting rid of the smaller options.

Honda Fit & Civic Coupe Discontinued

The Honda Fit was priced at $17,145 for the 2020 model year. This subcompact hatchback sold 13,887 models during the first part of 2020. That’s quite less than the HR-Vs, which made up nearly 37,000 of the sale ad the Civics, which almost hit 128,000 units. However, Honda’s best-selling model is still the CR-V, with 138,898 SUVs sold in the first part of 2020 alone.

If this isn’t depressing enough, the two-door Civic Coupe is also not going to return next year. We’ve also been told that the Civic Si model won’t return until 2020, but don’t much about the fate of the Type R Civic yet.

2021 Honda Lineup

We plan to give a full update into the 2021 Honda lineup soon, but do know the cheapest model for next year will be the Civic Sedan. This car should start around $21,775. But, you don’t need to spend much more to get behind the wheel of the Fit-based crossover. The HR-V should cost just shy of $22,000.

More Discontinued Models

We plan to report on many more discontinued models for 2021 and might need to do a full report. We’ve already told you about the Chevy Sonic and Lincoln Continental. We also know that Toyota is planning to end production of the Yaris hatchback and sedan. With the constant shift toward electric cars and utility vehicles, our 2021 Discontinued Cars List will be far larger than the 2020 report.

We just finished telling you how the luxury Lincoln Continental is being discontinued. Now, we have more models heading to the chopping block. It turns out that Chevy is going to get rid of its popular subcompact. At the end of this year, the Chevrolet Sonic will no longer be produced. For some people, this news is a shocker, considering how highly rated the Sonic was. Let’s get a closer look at what’s happening.

What Happened to the Chevrolet Sonic?

After the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study was released, everyone believed the Chevy Sonic would be safe. After all, it did rank at the top of its class. However, the automaker has decided to cease production after October. Until then, it will continue to come out of the Orion Assembly plant, located in Michigan.

Once production ends, there will be more space at the plant to protect a Bolt-based compact EV.

Sonic History

The Chevy Sonic has only been around since 2011. It was built after the GM bailout to appeal to the fuel-efficient market. However, the best sales of this car occurred in 2014, when numbers reached nearly 94,000. Last year, these numbers dwindled to just 14,000.

As the market continues shifting toward electric vehicles and SUVs, we continue to see car production ceasing. In fact, it was just this year that Chevrolet discontinued the Cruze, Impala and Volt. Very soon, we plan to put together a discontinued cars list for 2021 – and we expect many.

It was only a year ago that we reported on the possible death of the Lincoln Continental, but it didn’t come to pass. The automaker decided to keep up with production even after that report. However, it is happening now. Let’s talk more about the discontinued Lincoln Continental.

Why is the Lincoln Continental Being Discontinued?

The automaker once again confirmed that the Continental model will be discontinued at the end of 2020. This car has been its flagship sedan, so the news is a little surprising. However, Lincoln strives to be a brand made only of SUVs, so this is a step that must be taken.

In 2017, the Continental came back after a fifteen-year break. However, it never earned a solid reputation and sales continued to linger. In the first year, the company sold 12,012 units, but that dwindled to 6,587 in 2019.

No one can claim that Lincoln failed to put forth an effort. Just last year, the company worked with Cabot Coach, a limo builder in Massachusetts, to make stretched Continental models with suicide doors. Production of these cars was limited to 230 and each one cost $115,00o to own.

It appears that this Lincoln car has a larger following elsewhere. In fact, the company is continuing to sell them in China through at least 2021.

Currently, this Lincoln car is built with the Ford Mustang at the Flat Rock Michigan plant. For now, it’s unclear what will become of this factory. We do know that Ford canceled plans with Rivian, but will produce their own all-electric model in the coming years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many Ford production delays. Now some Ford 2020 models won’t hit the showrooms on time. These include the F-150, Mustang Mach-E and the most anticipated model, the Ford Bronco. Most of these models will arrive later in the year, about 2 months late. However, the Bronco will not be available for sales until 2021. 

How Long Will Ford Production Delays Last?

Ford begins production on May 18. This is an essential date for three of the biggest car manufacturers. United Auto Workers has cleared Ford, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler to resume production today. These dealers are going to be working hard to make up for lost time and money. Ford lost $5 billion just this quarter and other automakers aren’t doing much better. 

During these delays, Ford has been doing all they can by making masks, respirators and other PPE (personal protective equipment). They have put forth an impressive effort, while GM has been doing the same to fight this virus. No one can fault the automakers for their efforts during this pandemic, but now it’s time to get back to business.

Ford has already opened production in Europe and China, where the coronavirus is starting to wind down. The Ford Bronco, next-gen F-150 and the Mach-E model are all huge moneymakers for them. These three models are necessary for the company’s future, as they will likely have the most demand. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long for them.

What is Hyperdrive?

Hyperdrive is a documentary-style TV show where people race their custom made cars against other people on one of the largest tracks in the world. Season 1 had 10 episodes and was released on August 21, 2019. The executive producer of the show has been trying to get season 2 ready because it’s been in high demand. Even Rotten Tomatoes gave the first season exceptional reviews. 

During the first season, we witnessed many drivers doing the unbelievable. There were cars we would have never imagined that made it far and drivers that surely impressed. It didn’t take long for us to become huge fans of the Netflix show.

Will There Be a Hyperdrive Season 2?

The short answer is yes, Nexflix has renewed Hyperdrive, and it will premiere in August 2020. The show should remain the same, with 28 drivers racing their custom made vehicles on a crazy course. These courses are technically difficult, causing the drivers to think fast and show off their mind-blowing skills. 

Michael Bisping, Mike Hill, Rutledge Wood and Lindsay Czarniak will be hosting Hyperdrive for Season 2.

Not only is Chevy bringing back the classic Blazer name for 2020, but the Chevy Trailblazer is also coming back after being discontinued in 2009.

2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime

The RAV4 just had a redesign, so it should stay pretty much the same. However, this is not a typical RAV4. The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime is a plug-in hybrid that will offer more power than any RAV4 ever built by the Toyota manufacturer.

Companies like Allstate and Geico are offering coronavirus car insurance discounts during
this rough time. Many have struggled through the COVID-19 pandemic. However, auto insurance companies have not, because of the shelter-in-place orders causing fewer people to drive. 

What Coronavirus Car Insurance Discounts are Available?

Because of the decreased number of drivers, there have been fewer accidents occurring. This means less claims filed and more money for the auto insurance companies during the coronavirus pandemic. Autoblog claims that driving is down 30%-50% in most states.

To help drivers, Allstate is giving $600 million to their 18 million customers, plus a 15% credit on their monthly premiums during April and May. If you are a Geico customer, you’ll receive a 15% credit the next time your insurance is renewed. This discount from Geico has an approximate value of $2.5 billion.

If you have Allstate’s mobile app, you’ll get your money first. Geico’s customers will wait until their six-month renewal, so anytime between April 8-October 7, 2020. However, you won’t need to perform any actions to receive this discount. 

Other insurance companies who are offering savings include American Family Insurance is giving $50 per vehicle you have insured, Next Insurance is offering a 25% discount on your premium and Liberty Mutual is giving 15% back on two months of payments. Other large insurance companies like State Farm and Progressive are looking into a discount for their customers.

Have you heard the latest coronavirus news? It’s true! We just witnessed gas prices fall under $2 per gallon due to the pandemic, and we don’t see it coming up any time soon.  There has been a massive drop in price for oil, which has made gas prices plummet to rock bottom. In regular times, this would be great news. Unfortunately, this summer might not be a busy travel season, so people won’t be able to take advantage of it. This usually is when we see higher gas prices.

Why Did Gas Prices Fall?

The COVID-19 epidemic is affecting the economy in many ways, and this is just one of the things changing because of the outbreak. The gas price went below $2 on Tuesday, even though this hasn’t happened in four years. Plus, the national average of $1.99 is now 11 cents lower than a week ago, and 69 cents cheaper than a year ago.

Most experts didn’t expect it to fall below $1. However, it did. According to GasBuddy, a fuel price tracking app, some states are only charging $1 or less per gallon of fuel. Wisconsin has stations charging 95 cents. 

The cost of oil has dropped into the $20 range, because of the global economic shutdown. According to the Oil Price Information Service, the amount of oil is at an 18 year low. Approximately 100,000 gas stations are only charging $2 or less for every gallon and 29 out of 50 states have an average of less than $2.

What Will Happen to Fuel Prices?

Sadly, for most people, it’s impossible to take advantage of this great bargain because the majority of Americans have a stay at home order. This order only allows residents to drive for essential items. With the lack of driving occurring, the fuel only continues to be stockpiled, leading to further issues. 

This isn’t the only disruption to the economy. Did you hear that the 2020 Detroit Auto Show was canceled due to COVID-19?

YourMechanic did a study on the most Eco-Friendly drivers by state. Let’s look closer at what was discovered through the research. 

What States Have Eco-Friendly Drivers?

The state that had the lowest average annual mileage was Alaska at 9,915 miles per driver. This state has very rural areas, which makes driving more difficult. Hawaii was in 2nd but is the US smallest state. Wyoming came in last and has the highest annual mileage at 21,821. Georgia followed 2nd to last and Oklahoma, 3rd only 30 miles behind 2nd.

California has the most EVs vs. the population. Mississippi came in last place, showing it is not an EV-friendly state. There is only one EV for every 277 people. Unlike California, which has one for every 28 people.

Obviously, you would think California would come first again for most EV charging stations, right? However, Vermont took the first spot on this in one and California came in 2nd. Surprisingly, Vermont came in fifth for most EVs vs. population. At the other end of the board, we see Alaska, Louisiana and North Dakota with the least amount of charging stations.

Hawai spends very little time driving over 70 mph, while Alaska came in 2nd. Furthermore, Alaska has more strict speed laws then Hawai, yet they still drive slower. Wyoming spends the most time driving over 70 mph, even though they have high gas prices. 

Overall Winner

Hawai is the winner of this eco-friendly drivers study, indicating that this state has the most eco-conscious residents. From there, Washington places 2nd and Oregon falls into 3rd. At the bottom of the chart, we see Mississippi in last, Alabama next to last and North Dakota 3rd to last. Hawaii won because they clearly excelled in every segment of the study.
