We are all fans of a good supercar and sports car, so naturally, our ears perk up when we hear of some new models. Lotus, the British sports automaker has something special planned for the 2020 lineup. Let’s take a closer look at what we know about the new 2020 Lotus sports car.
Lotus Lineup
Lotus was purchased by Geely Automotive back in 2017. Since then, the British company has been busy. They started the construction of a 1.3-billion dollar factory to produce automobiles in China. They also began developing a seven-figure hypercar set to compete with Aston Martin and McLaren.
There are even rumors of a Lotus SUV in the works, although we can’t confirm that. On top of all this hard work, Phil Popham, Lotus CEO, announced a brand new sports car coming to the lineup. This will pair with the Elise, Exige and Evora.
Popham believes the new car will bridge the current generation of Lotus vehicles with the next lineup set to arrive in the mid-2020s. It will be the final car before they introduce a new platform.
2020 Lotus Sports Car
The newest design will be more practical than the other vehicles offered by Lotus. With that said, the car still contains superb handling, acceleration and lighter weight. From what we know now, it will share many design qualities of the Evora.
It’s expected that the engine will come from Toyota since the two companies have an agreement. Lotus is in charge of the product planning, conceptual work and much of the engineering. They will use their design studios in China, Germany and Sweden to complete the job. In fact, they have 150 engineers in place for this purpose.
Future Lotus Cars
In addition to the 2020 Lotus sports car, we do expect an SUV in the future. After that, we should see some electric vehicles in their models as well. Of course, the company has been silent about all those changes, so time will tell.
