New 2020 Chevrolet Blazer Engine Options

The turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder LSY includes dual overhead camshafts with Variable Valve Timing, automatic engine Stop/Start and Spark Ignited Direct Injection. Output on this engine is 230 horsepower plus it produces 258 lb-ft of torque.

This LSY engine is also available on other GM models including the 2020 Cadillac XT5, 2020 GMC Acadia and the 2020 Cadillac ST4. As far as the Blazer is concerned, this engine is standard with the 2LT and 3LT mid-range trims. Of course, you can choose to upgrade them to the 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated V6 LGX instead.

The remainder of the lineup comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder LCV or the 3.6-liter LGX. Both of these have a DOHC configuration with VVT, automatic engine Stop/Start and SIDI. The LCV features an output of 193 horsepower plus 188 lb-ft of torque. The LGX, on the other hand, pumps out 308 horsepower with 270 lb-ft of torque.

All three engine options come paired to a brand-new nine-speed automatic transmission.

2023 Chevrolet Camaro Might Be The Last

We’ve got new reports suggesting that GM will quit producing the Camaro after 2023. The truth is, things haven’t looked good for the Chevy Camaro for some time now. It’s currently in third place among the muscle cars. It sits behind the Dodge Challenger and the Ford Mustang. While we have a few more years to enjoy this vehicle, it appears that the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro might be the last.

What Does the Report Say?

In a report with Muscle Cars & Trucks, GM reportedly stated that it was time to give up on the Camaro. Sales have declined by 25% just from 2017 to 2018 alone. With that in mind, 2019 doesn’t appear much better.

Sources at GM plan to forgo all plans to make the 7th-generation Camaro and instead retire it after 2023. As of now, the 6th-generation Camaro rides on the Alpha platform. This also underpins the Cadillac CTS and ATS. Both of these vehicles will be replaced by the new CT4 and CT5 sedans that ride on an A2XX platform instead. They planned to do the same with the Chevy, but instead, the automaker plans to wave the white flag at Ford and Dodge instead.

We recently boasted about the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as an affordable option to a supercar. It’s stylish, affordable and offers plenty of power, but not every Chevy enthusiast feels the same way. In fact, GM planned an emergency facelift for the 2020 Camaro.

Goodbye to the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro

Not everyone is happy to hear this report. If this news makes you sad, you need to remember that 2023 is still several years away. GM could change their minds and decide to keep this muscle car in the lineup. It would have to make a dramatic turn in sales.

GM Plans to Produce Airless Tires

In today’s world, it makes sense that every automaker out there continues to progress forward to new innovations. That’s why we aren’t surprised to see GM working on a new set of wheels. The American company plans to partner with Michelin to develop airless tires. These non-pneumatic tires are for use on both cars and trucks. Let’s get a closer look at what this invention means for automobiles of the future.

The new tires feature the code name Uptis. That stands for Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System. It is constructed of a flexible composite matrix that replaces the typical air chambers. This material bears the vehicle weight while also absorbing any surface imperfections.

The main advantage of this technology includes a reduced chance of blowouts. Furthermore, the tires don’t wear as quickly because improper inflation is no longer an issue.

Right now, Michelin already provides a similar product. Their “Tweels” fit ATVs, skid-steers and lawnmowers. GM will be the first automaker that partners with them to modify the technology for on-road usage.

Coming Soon to a Vehicle Near You?

Michelin states their tires weigh less than a standard run-flat version. With the new wheel and tire combination, drivers shouldn’t notice a difference in the vehicle’s performance.

GM prepares to start real-world testing of the product. The first vehicle to gain this technology is the Chevy Bolt EV. By 2024, it might also be factory equipment on the model. We still aren’t sure what pricing will look like for the new setup, but imagine it might increase the base cost slightly.

GM Ends Partnership Talks With Rivian

Rivian and GM ended the partnership talks that would have allowed General Motors access to the innovative skateboard technology used by Rivian. If you remember, we told you in February that GM and Amazon were both planning to invest in Rivian’s electric technology. Now, it seems those plans are ending.

Last year, we saw the R1T electric pickup truck first hit the scene. We’ve also had a glimpse at the R1S electric SUV that’s coming as well. Both of these EVs offer a range up to 400 miles and plenty of horsepower for anything you need to do.

What’s exceptional about the electric lineup is the chassis. It’s built on an easily adapted and fully modular setup. The automaker then set out to sell the platform to other carmakers to produce their vehicles. Of course, Amazon and GM had no trouble lining up for negotiations.

Amazon wasted no time investing $700 million. They plan to create their own self-driving fleet. GM wants to build an electric pickup truck of their own. Having this technology would have boosted development and allowed Rivian much-needed access to GM production facilities. This would have allowed the company to send their R1T and R1S to market sooner.

While GM hasn’t announced why talks have ended, they do speculate that they wish to keep their options open. We aren’t sure who loses more by leaving the discussion, but it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Rivian won’t stop marketing to other automakers. Their technology is innovative and will surely interest many companies. Because of what they’ve created, it’s possible that we might see many more electric trucks in our future.

GM Wants to Trademark Bolt EUV

It appears that GM just filed a new application for the “Bolt EUV.” They plan to trademark the name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application was submitted on April 9th and features the serial number 88376963. They filed the Bolt EUV trademark and we have some theories on what’s going to happen next.

We believe that GM has plans to create a new vehicle, namely the Bolt EUV. While we aren’t quite sure what the EUV stands for yet, we speculate it is an acronym meaning Electric Utility Vehicle. It could be the name of the next Chevy EV.

General Motors did confirm that they have plans to create a future EV for Chevy. This came right after the $300 million investment into the Michigan Lake Orion plant. At this facility, GM currently builds the Bolt EV, Sonic and Cruise AV prototypes. In addition, it’s also the only worldwide facility that presently produces autonomous vehicles on a production line.

We do know that the Chevrolet EV will share the GM BEV2 platform that’s currently located on the Bolt EV. We do believe that this new vehicle might be a small crossover. If our guesses are accurate, it might be roughly the size of the Equinox. As a result, this helps the company achieve its goal of reaching 20 all-electric vehicles by 2023.

Future of Electric Vehicles

There’s a lot of competition in the electric vehicle market right now as all the automakers race to be the next big company. With that said, what we would really like to see from Chevy is an electric pickup truck similar to what Ford is planning. So, when we get news related to that, we will be sure to pass it along.

GM and Amazon Set to Invest in Rivian Automotive

While we don’t have all the details yet, sources tell us that both GM and Amazon are set to invest in Rivian Automotive. The electric truck and SUV maker has made plenty of news lately so it might be a good play for both companies. As of right now, Rivian is valuing itself at $1 to $2 billion and is willing to give each company non-controlling stakes in the company.

We may get more news about a deal yet this month, but there’s nothing in concrete yet. With that in mind, Rivian Automotive does plan to begin deliveries of the R1T pickup in 2020. They also have some other electric vehicle ideas in the works.

Right now, Rivian uses what they refer to as the electric skateboard. This platform contains all the mechanical components of a battery-only vehicle. The cooling, brakes, suspension, wheels, motors and battery pack are set to go. The only thing that needs added yet is the interior and body of the vehicle itself.

What’s interesting about other automakers is that they seem to be neglecting the pickup market when it comes to electric technology. Other than the Tesla truck, we don’t see a lot of companies jumping on the bandwagon. Either they have intel that it won’t be popular, or they know something we don’t. Personally, we think it would be a success considering the demand for trucks right now.

GM wants to use its investment to manufacture a lineup of electric pickups. GM is also working on electric SUVs which will fall under the Cadillac marque.

We don’t yet understand Amazon’s interest in the automotive company. Amazon is investment wise so they might just see an opportunity for themselves. They also have shown an interest in self-driving cars so they might be looking to work together on an autonomous fleet.

GM Ending Production of Six Cars

It looks like General Motors is the latest automaker to cut passenger car production. News hit that GM is ending production of six of their cars. GM ending production of vehicles such as the Chevrolet Cruze and Volt might help them to revive sales; only time will tell.

This move was part of a plan to cut costs and revealed by the company just this past Monday. As Americans flock to pickups, SUVs and crossovers, it makes complete sense that GM ends production of certain vehicles.

In North America, they are discontinuing the Volt and Cruze starting in March 2019. They will also end the Impala production in March.

Furthermore, the Cadillac XTS and Buick LaCross will stop being produced at the same time in the United States. Then, the Cadillac CT6 will see its final run in mid-2019, though these will continue to be sold in China.

GM Closing Plants

If that news wasn’t enough, they are also closing three of their assembly plants. The Ontario, Ohio and Michigan plants will shut down before 2019 ends.

All these moves combined should save the company $6 billion, especially since they plan to cut 15% of the workforce.

During the first nine months of 2018, Chevy Volt sales fell 15.9% in the United States when compared to the previous year. In that same period:

  • sales of the Cruze fell 26.5%
  • Impala purchases declined 13.4%
  • XTS sales jumped 15.9%
  • CT6 sales decreased 10.6%
  • LaCross sales dropped 14.2%

In total, the first nine months of this year shows sales of almost 200,000 vehicles that are set to be discontinued. That’s a large chunk of the pie. In fact, it’s a little less than half of the Chevy Silverado sales, which is the company’s most popular model.

What does this mean for the future of GM? Clearly, the company will continue to focus on the Chevrolet Colorado, Silverado and SUVs, but will this be enough to pull them through?
