Most of us know that EVs are more expensive than other vehicles. However, these cars are more efficient than gas-powered cars and not only that, they do not cost as much to maintain. If you want the best electric cars for 2020, we have the top five EVs that are the most reliable to drive.

5. 2019 Audi e-tron

The starting price for the e-tron is $74,800. It has a range of 204 miles which is not as far as some of Audi’s competitors. Standard features on this EV include a 10.1-inch touch screen, wireless phone charging, smartphone connectivity, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, navigation, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit and some advanced safety features.

4. 2020 Jaguar I-Pace

This EV has more of a range at 234 miles. The starting price is also a little lower at $69,850. The Jaguar I-Pace comes standard with a ton of safety features. It also comes with a panoramic sunroof, synthetic leather seats, 12.3-inch driver display, dual-screen infotainment system, Wi-Fi hot spot, Meridian sound system and smartphone integration.

3. 2019 Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 has a range of 220 to 325 miles. The starting price is much lower than the vehicles listed already at $35,000. However, this isn’t a luxury vehicle so it should be cheaper to purchase. This EV has outsold many of Tesla’s rivals because of the minimalistic cabin and its cargo space.

2. 2019 Kia Soul EV

This EV has a starting price that is a little higher than the Tesla at $38,500. The range is much lower than it should be at 111 miles. However, Kia is planning to release an updated version of the Soul for the 2021 model year and it should be able to drive 243 mi on a single charge. Until then, you will be thankful for the roomy seats, high-quality materials, excellent crash test scores and almost perfect reliability ratings, making this vehicle a great value.

1. 2019 Tesla Model S

The starting price on this Tesla is higher than all of the other models listed here at $75,000. However, it’s for good reason because the Model S Tesla has a driving range of 259 to 373 miles. This Tesla also has lots of room for cargo and passengers. Standard features with this model include a massive 17-inch touch screen, a navigation system, heated front and rear seats as well as Autopilot.

Last year, we posted the Discontinued Cars for 2019 list. It captured a lot of attention because consumers want to know what to expect. That’s why we decided to do the same thing again this year, except it is the Discontinued Cars for 2020.

Considering that U.S. car sales dropped 11% in September, it’s time for a shake-up in the automotive world. If you want a deal on a vehicle, this list offers a great place to start. After all, dealers want to get these models off the lot as quickly as possible.

Audi TT

We first told you that this model would be discontinued back in May. This sporty coupe and convertible have been around since 1998, so plenty of people are disappointed in the news. The Audi TT will be replaced with a full-electric model down the road.

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, Gran Turismo & 3 Series Gran Turismo

This luxury automaker has been known for its extensive model variations. What’s interesting about these three options is that the consumer never got on board with these hatchback and four-door coupe variations. It makes sense for BMW to ax all three of these models from their upcoming lineup.

Buick Cascada

Do you remember when most models had a convertible option? Those days are gone, but the Cascada still persisted, until now. Since 2016, the Buick Cascada was offered as a midsize ragtop. In the first half of the year, the company only sold 2,000 units, so it was time to hit the chopping block.

Buick LaCrosse

This large sedan was originally going to be a refreshed model, but the automaker decided to concentrate on crossover SUVs instead. With the disappearance of the LaCrosse, the only remaining passenger car in the Buick lineup is the Regal.

Cadillac ATS

What’s interesting about the ATS is that it really isn’t being discontinued. Instead, it plans to undergo a name change for 2020. This vehicle is titled the CT4 in future models.

Cadillac CTS

We also lose the CTS for 2020. This midsize car ceases production in January to make room for the new CT5 instead.

Cadillac XTS

The Cadillac XTS has been around since 2013. What’s interesting about the lineup is that it was one of the only front-drive luxury sedans. As of now, this car is no longer being produced. Still, we don’t think too many people are disappointed.

Chevrolet Cruze

There was a time when the small car was the thing. While it had a nice ten-year run, this car can no longer compete against the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic.

Chevrolet Impala

The Impala will no longer be produced after January. While it isn’t their lowest seller, it still doesn’t receive the sales that the company hoped for.

Chevrolet Volt

The Chevy Volt has been around since 2010 as one of the first extended-range electric vehicles. Initially, it had a gas engine that ran a generator. Then, in 2016, the second-generation Volt offers a 53-mile range before the engine took over. While the Volt won’t be produced any longer, we think it’s possible to see the platform used on electric crossover SUVs from the automaker.

Ferrari 488

Does it make you sad to know that the 488 GTB will be no longer? Don’t fret! It will be replaced with the F8 Tributo instead. This is more powerful, beautiful and lighter.

Fiat 500 & 500e

No one expected these models to make it. On top of that, we can’t imagine that the 124 Spider, 500X and 500L will make it much longer either.

Ford Fiesta

When gas prices were soaring, the Fiesta was introduced to meet a need, but it’s not popular anymore. Fuel prices dropped and consumers wanted crossovers like the EcoSport instead. Even though it’s been around since 2011, this model just won’t make it.

Ford Taurus

Can you believe this sedan has been around since 1986? Once Ford attempted to rename the Taurus the Five Hundred, but that didn’t work out well. From 1992 until 1996, it was the best-selling car in the country, but not any longer.

Hyundai Santa Fe XL

Last year’s Santa Fe was divided into the five-passenger Sport model and the seven-passenger XL. For 2020, the Hyundai Palisade takes the XL’s place in the lineup.

Jaguar XJ

You might be wondering why Jaguar’s flagship sedan is leaving production after five-decades on lots. We don’t have all of the answers but do know that a successor is coming around the corner. It’s supposed to be more upscale plus it competes against the electric Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.

Lincoln MKC

This compact crossover SUV isn’t really leaving, but merely getting a new name. The Lincoln Corsair is brand new for 2020 and has a lot to offer.

Lincoln MKT

The three-row crossover is being replaced with an Aviator. It will offer more style and have additional capability.

Nissan 370Z Roadster

Nothing is happening with the 370Z coupe, but you can say goodbye to the convertible. It’s leaving the lineup for good.

Nissan Rogue Hybrid

We told you that the Rogue Hybrid was dead back in July. While the gas-powered crossover is the automaker’s top-seller, the hybrid model can’t remain sustainable at current sales rates.

Smart EQ ForTwo

This Smart has been around since 2008, but it never truly fit in. The company attempted to add an electric version back in 2013, but that didn’t help. Instead, we have to say goodbye to Smart Cars.

Toyota Prius C

The Yaris-based Prius ceased production. It will be replaced by the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid.

Volkswagen Beetle

Back in 1998, the Beetle was revived for modern times. It turned heads and brought back the nostalgia of times gone by. Unfortunately, by the time the second generation was launched in 2012, the VW Beetle lost its charm.

Volkswagen Golf SportWagen & Alltrack

Bringing up the rear of the discontinued cars for 2020 list are the SportWagen and Alltrack. Blame it on the crossover SUVs once again, but these are no longer. In fact, it’s the first year that VW didn’t have a wagon since 1965. What will the world do?

Amazon plans to purchase 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian. Jeff Bezos made the announcement during an event when the CEO was discussing climate change.

Rivian Electric Delivery Vans

Bezos expects these Rivian vans to hit the road by 2024. Initially, the first round will start delivering in 2021. Up until now, we’ve only known about the Rivian truck and SUV.

Rivian remains a new name in the EV industry. While many people only heard about the business recently, they have been around since 2009. Initially, the company was founded to compete against Tesla. It didn’t take long for RJ Scaringe, the company’s CEO to redirect and target adventure-based customers instead.

This past year, Rivian made a significant push into fundraising. This campaign was successful, with them achieving plenty of capital. Even Amazon led a $700 million funding round but never commented on how much of that came from the company personally. After that, Ford announced another $500 million investment into Rivian. The most recent was with Cox Automotive who offered another $350 million.

Rivian Vehicles

Rivian boasts of two vehicles right now: the R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck. These are both on an identical technological platform. The vehicles start around $70k and should travel with a 400-mile electric range. The company also claims that these hit 60 mph in less than three seconds.

In addition to these two vehicles, we now know that a third is on its way – the Amazon delivery van. It shall be interesting to see how many other companies decide to employ this technology. It’s also curious to notice that in this instance, Rivian isn’t overly focused on the off-road market. Maybe they will have more success in creating commercial vehicles.

Electric pickups are preparing to head down the streets everywhere. While none are on sale yet, we know about several automakers preparing for production.

Rivian

We’ve told you about the Rivian R1T electric pickup before. This truck is planned for 2020 and will come with a starting price nearing $70,000. It has four-motor all-wheel drive, a 400-mile range, air suspension and 11,000-pound towing capacity. This truck reaches 60 mph in just three seconds.

Tesla

Elon Musk spends a lot of time teasing about their electric pickup, but it might be on its way down the production line. We expect the price to be under $50,000. The goal of the automaker is to have F-150 functionality with Porsche-like style.

Ford

The American automaker is wasting no time preparing an electric F-150 truck. We aren’t sure when it will hit showrooms, but we know it has the capability enthusiasts are looking for. The prototype recently proved the powertrain tows more than a million pounds.

General Motors

The company stated they have an electric truck in the works, but we haven’t heard anything else about it. We do know that the company plans to release 20 EVs by 2023, so it makes sense that a truck would be one of them.

Workhorse

This startup company wants to purchase the Lordstown, Ohio plant from GM to make an electric commercial pickup. While they have thousands of orders for the truck, they haven’t closed the deal quite yet.

Fisker

It’s not enough that the car company filed for bankruptcy, the California-based group wants to build an electric SUV and pickup by 2021. There’s no target for production and all they have now is a rough rendering.

Upcoming Electric Pickups

We will have our eyes open for any other electric-powered pickups making their way to dealerships. Over the next few years, one should be in every lineup.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the 2019 Audi E-Tron as a Top Safety Pick+. The E-Tron is Audi’s first all-electric vehicle and it is the first electric vehicle to have won the IIHS honor.

2019 Audi E-Tron Crushes the Competition

We’ve told you about the 2019 E-Tron in our 2019 EV Lineup post. Some other cars from our listing have attempted to earn this prestigious honor and failed. Some of its competitors included the Tesla Model S and the Chevrolet Bolt.

The IIHS also rated the Audi E-Tron very high in the category of crashworthiness. This model comes standard with the unique E-Tron Pre-Sense Front automatic emergency braking system. This system avoided crashing at 25 mph and slowed down to just one mile an hour before crashing in the 12-mph test.

The E-Tron had somewhat of a rough start. The launch date occurred later than planned because of legal problems with Audi’s CEO. Then, a battery shortage pushed the launch date back even further. After the E-Tron was finally rolled out, there was a recall on many of the vehicles. This was caused by a risk of the vehicle catching on fire.

The Audi E-Tron is a luxury electric vehicle and only competes with a few other models in the space. Its main competitor is the Jaguar I-PACE. More competition is on the way in the near future, though. Both the Porsche Taycan and the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV are two major rivals arriving soon.
